John V. Folsom, American Legion Post #54 is a Charter Post, chartered on October 19, 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization focusing on service to veterans, veteran families, the local communities and our youth. Celebrating their Centennial Anniversary, they have been visible in and have served the local area for over 100 years. Post #54 currently has over 250 veteran members plus numerous members within our Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders groups. In addition, Post #54 sponsors local Boy Scout troops, youth baseball programs (American Legion Baseball), youth Americanism essay contests/awards and local high school student scholarships and Legion College programs. Our youth scholastic activities are open to students and homeschooled students in Chewelah, Valley, Springdale, Loon Lake and Summit Valley districts.
